Part 5: Working with Citrix XenApp 6.5 – Configuring License Server

Now that we got all the XenApp infrastructure Server Roles installed, we’ll begin with the configuration. I’d like to start with the License Server configuration, it’s actually quite simple to do, and will only take a few minutes. Once we properly configure the License Server, we’ll then create the XenApp farm and configure the XenApp server.

Configuring License Server:

First thing we need to do is get our license from MyCitrix.com.
Once we’re logged in, we’ll need to navigate to My Account -> All Licensing Tools -> Activate and Allocate Licenses. We should then see the Evaluation or Full license. One important note, make sure to type the correct hostname of the XenApp server, the host name is case sensitive

We can now click on Continue and our license should be correctly allocated and ready to download

After retrieving the license, we’ll need to download it and save it somewhere where our License server has access.
Now it’s time for the License server configuration, let’s begin by clicking on Configure under the License Server task

Next, we need setup a password for the License Server admin account

Once we click on OK, we’ll now need to connect to the license server by navigating to http://license_server_name:8082/ and clicking on the Administration tab on the top right

Enter the username admin and the password we setup earlier

We need to import the license, to do so, simply navigate to the Vendor Daemon Configuration and click on Import License button at the top

Browse to the license file

Select Overwrite License File on License Server and click Import License

The license should now be successfully imported

Now, all we have left to do is point our XenApp server to the license server. Let’s click on Specify Licensing under XenApp Configuration tasks and enter the correct license server information

At this point, we’re done with the basic license server configuration. We also configured our XenApp server to connect to the correct license server. In Part 6, we’ll look at configuring the XenApp server.
