Part 4: Working with Citrix XenApp 6.5 – Installing License Server, XenApp Server, and Web Interface

We are now ready to install the XenApp infrastructure servers, that is the License Server, XenApp Server, and the Web Interface server. In my lab, I am going to be installing all three roles on the same server, however in production, you’ll need to assess your options and come up with the correct architecture that will suit your company needs.
The system requirements, both hardware and software can be found here.

XenApp Server Installation:

Let’s begin by launching the Citrix XenApp installer
xa1
Next, we’ll pick the Add server roles options
xa2
We now need to select what edition of XenApp do we want to install. In my lab I chose to use the Enterprise version
xa3
At this point, we need to accept the Citrix XenApp Server license agreement and click Next
xa4
Here is where it gets interesting, we need to chose what roles we want to install. Like I mentioned earlier, in my lab I chose to install all three roles (License, XenApp, Web) on the same server
xa5
Next, we can chose if we want to include certain subcomponents, in my case, I left the default selection
xa6
At the Review Prerequisites summary we’ll need to review the selection we made and click Next. Notice how some prerequisites require a reboot?
xa7
Now, let’s begin the installation
xa8
xa9
As the installation completes, we are now being prompted to reboot
xa10
Once we successfully reboot and log back in with the same account we used to install Citrix, we get prompted with the Citrix Role Manager to Resume installation
xa11
And, once again, we need to click on Install
xa12
xa13
Now we can click on finish after the installation is complete
xa14
Citrix has come a long way… The installation process is really simple and doesn’t take much effort. In part 5, we’ll look at configuring the License Server.
